Kimi no Sei is a harsh, pulsating landscape of distorted beats, crunchy noises and echoes of cold steel. The project was created in January 2008. Having had a bunch of projects back then already (with more to come) and wanting them to be different from one another not only musically, but also conceptually, I decided to go for Japanese language with this one. Some early tracks had English names, but everything on the full-length albums is in Japanese, though spelled in Romaji, as most of the audience would be rather uninterested in something they can't even read. (Plus my Japanese is not that good either.) Some tracks are also accompanied by samples from Japanese movies or anime. "Kimi no Sei" means "your fault". "Sekai Seifuku" means "world domination". "Warugi" has meanings like "malice", "evil intent", or "ill feeling". "Osoreru Koto wa Nai" means "There is nothing to be afraid of". "Yamete" means "Stop it!" The first track of the first album can be translated in two ways: either as "It's your fault!", or as "This is Kimi no Sei!", basically introducing the project to the listeners. Avoiding primitive technoid kick-hat-kick-hat patterns and too much repetition, KNS focuses on more complex rhythms, using different kicks and other sounds for each track, as well as different tempos. There is also a balance between minimalist beats with melodic loops and heavy-distortion, harsh patterns. There are a few peculiarities about this project, just for the fun of it. The first track's title on each album always somehow plays with letters from the name Kimi no Sei. (This will soon be abandoned, though, due to running out of words like that.) The last track always contains the project's name, with the titles meaning roughly "So it was your fault, after all" (2009), "Because it's your fault" (2010), "Well, it is your fault, isn't it?" (2012), and "It's always your fault" (2015). The last track is also always something minimalist and experimental (and long). Other experiments include the track "Kinosei", made only with variations of one kick and white noise + effects, or the track "Kimi no Sei dakara", using only kicks and effects. Two early tracks are available on the Manifestations of One compilation. A collection of 3 other tracks, released on other compilations, including the first KNS track ever from January '08, can be downloaded One more track can be found on Noisethirst. | ||||||||||||||||
